Mooneyes Celebrates 60 Years as Eye-con With Exhibit at NHRA Museum

We were lucky enough to be invited to the opening of the Mooneyes exhibit at the NHRA Motorsports Museum in Pomona, California. The exhibit opened on January 27, 2012. With a room full of industry honchos and a handful of the guys that made hot rodding, Bonneville and drag racing what it is today, it was quite the event.

A few notables in the crowd were; Ed Iskenderian, Jim Dunn and Pete Chaporis. Brad Fanshaw's cast mate from Car Warrior's 2, Jimmy Shine was also in attendance.

It should be noted, without the Mooneyes owner; Shige Suganuma and the President, Chico Kodama's aquisition of Moon in the early 1990's it may no longer exist.

The display at the NHRA Museum is an retrospective of Dean Moon's legacy. It is complete with race cars, motorcycles and memorabilia. The cars on display include the Moon streamliner, the Moon dragster and much more.

In 1996 bonspeed (Then Bonneville Sports) was loaned the Moon streamliner for a photo shoot at the dry lakes. The car was photographed for our clothing and garage gear catalog. Modified with the Bonneville trademark Orange color and our Circle "B" logo many thought we had built a sister car. Other called thinking we had painted the famous Moon racer.

The Mooneyes dragster sits among other racers at the NHRA Museum. The exhibit is open now and until Fall of 2012 at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum, 1101 W. McKinley Ave, Building 3A, Pomona, California, 91768

January is auction time in the Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona area. Every type of vehicle and every type of collector is in town. There is the Gooding, Mecum, RM, Russo & Steele, Barrett-Jackson and more.

In January you usually find excellent weather and a great time with even better car people. This year bonspeed boy, Brad Fanshaw attended with his friends Larry Dixon and Steve Johnson. Due to drag racing schedules neither had ever attended the events. This year they found some extra time.

The people at ADESA Auto Auctions couldn't have been any nicer they asked us to come by and appear at their annual event. We were in great company the group was Barry Meguire (Meguire's Car Care and Car Crazy), Larry Dixon (Three-time NHRA Top Fuel Champion), Steve Johnson (NHRA Pro-Stock Motorcycle Champion), Parnelli Jones, Mike Russo (ADESA), Brad Fanshaw (Car Warriors on SPEED and Rod & Custom Radio) and Alan Taylor (TV and Radio Host).

Dixon gets interviewed by SPEED Johnson drives in view.

Larry was grabbed by SPEED for a quick interview in the staging lanes to discuss his search for a new sponsor. The ever-ready Steve Johnson grabbed some of the limelight by sneaking into a car and making an appearance.

Brad did his share of hanging out with the SPEED crew to promote his new show that premiers on February 24th. After a live interview he made his way up to the SPEED Social Garage to answer Twitter questions and meet April Rose and Justin Bell.

One rare muscle car, M/T prepared HEMI Thunderbolt

Jim Mangione sold an incredible collection of cars at Barrett-Jackson, it included this Mickey Thompson, Hemi Ford T-Bolt.

Brad and Bob Bauder were part of the team that restored this car years back and the owner asked us to take it across the auction block.

Yes, muscle cars are still very much in demand and rarity reigns supreme! This 1969 Camaro ZL-1 (Aluminum 427). Sold for $451,000 on Saturday.

Car Warriors Season 2 on SPEED - Production is Complete

All twelve (12) episodes of Car Warriors Season 2 for SPEED are completed. This production challenges two teams of car builders to customize a car in just 48 hours!

On Car Warriors there are no made up time lines the clock starts and the clock stops, it is truly 48 consecutive hours. The teams create a design then paint the vehicle, install a high-performance drivetrain, sew custom upholstery, add modified suspensions and a host of other custom features.

Brad Fanshaw acts as a technical co-host for the show by providing the audience with up-to-the minute information about the build. Fanshaw also informs the viewers of potential problems and solutions that the team encounters. His is a roll of information provider, coach, design leader, mentor and psychologist. Yes, Brad gets his hands dirty helping teams with ideas, solutions and management of the 48 hours.

Brad Fanshaw is New Host of Rod & Custom Radio

Brad Fanshaw made his debut as the new host of the nationally syndicated radio show; Rod & Custom Radio. The show is developed from the pages of Rod & Custom Magazine that was founded in 1953. The magazine has technical features, show coverage and how-to articles for rods and customs to 1964. Fanshaw takes over from the former host David Newhardt who is taking over a new Muscle Car show.

Fanshaw and his former business partner Boyd Coddington won four AMBR awards and numerous other awards. Together they employed the best and brightest including Jesse James and Chip Foose, while designing and building iconic rods that set a standard for generations to follow.

The first two shows are available now on iTunes and are syndicated by ERN Networks.

Brad Fanshaw has been filming the new season of Car Warriors for SPEED. The show that debuted in 2011 has been given a new format that pits shops against one another in a 48 hour challenge! The show features less time to build the cars, but provides a much better approach with more tech information and a better look at how these vehicles get built in just a mind-boggling 48 hours.

Fanshaw, brings over twenty-five years of professional custom car design and building experience to the show. As a business partner of the legendary Boyd Coddington from 1987 to 1996 their shop won the prestigious Grand National Roadster Show AMBR award four times. Since 1996 Fanshaw has won numerous awards on his own including both the GM and Ford Design Awards. Additionally, he has founded a leading forged aluminum wheel company, bonspeed Wheels with rock star Michael Anthony of Van Halen and Chickenfoot fame.

Brad Fanshaw brings his management, design and building talents to the show while he is allowed to flex his on-camera presence. The producers of Car Warriors have chosen Fanshaw to provide teams his expert advice during each build and provide the audience a while-it-happens perspective from his first-hand view. The show is hosted by Jimmy Shine and the two interact throughout each episode along with another lead tech.

Car Warriors will begin airing on SPEED in February 2012.

Monterey MotorWeek is an event that must be added to your bucket list. If you love cars it is a week of racing, people, cars, auctions and parties.

Trust us you will see virtually anything from hot rods to Bugatti's. One party we attended had an incredible row of no less than ten Bugatti's parked in Valet!

What can you expect? Exotic cars, vintage races, auctions where cars sell for multi-millions and shows of all types.

The bonspeed boys had such a schedule of events that we were worn out by Sunday night. Enjoy our photos and then add this to your list of must attend events. Every August in Monterey, California.

The auto builders like Jaguar, Bentley, Lambroghini, Ferrari, Lexus and more through lavish displays and parties. Most launch new models or concepts during the events.

At right is a concept that Jaguar showed at its party.

If vintage Ferraris are your thing, you will not be disapointed they are everywhere from the newest to the rarest.

This Lusso was sitting at rest on the grass at the Concorso Italiano an all Italian car show.

At the Italiano event our friend and host of Motor Trend radio grabbed us for an interview about the cars and the week of events.

We were flattered he asked us since he had been interviewing guys like Leno, Car Co. Presidents, Indy and F1 drivers.

This is the Gooding Co. / Ferrari party at Pebble Beach, it was packed and the cars ranged from a hot rod to a $19 million Ferrari.

The people were great and no wonder they all love cars!

The cars are such a selection of brands and styles. Some of these cars are usually only seen in museums and/or books. In Carmel you actually seem them drive in from 17 Mile Drive.

This boattail speedster was perfect and had such fantastic lines.

Brad found his favorite in Carmel, a Ferrari 250 GTO. Since these cars are now in the tens of millions it is like having your picture taken with a movie star!

This Lamborghini may have stealth styling, but it drew attention all day parked curbside. This car is bad and there was also a flat black one cruising around all weekend.

Out at Laguna Seca the racing was fantastic and it was every type of car you can imagine. Trans-Am, Can-Am, experimental tons of fun.

Jaguar was the celebration manufacturer at the track this year. There was a two lap parade of Jaguars and they asked the bonspeed boys to drive a vintage 1962 Jaguar.

We jumped in and experienced two laps on the fabled track. They must of thought we were someone else?

Steve Moal the ultimate builder showed off his newest creation and it was rolling art. It takes alot to stand out in Monterey and Moal's car did it with the vintage 1940's bomber inspiration.

The outside of Moal's car had all the right stuff. Steve showed with a grinning owner standing close by at the Monterey Jet Center event call McCall's MotorWorks.

The week was a thumbs-up! Brad even got to drive the new Ferrari through Carmel Canyon which was an experience in itself.

The Foot is going crazy, first Chickenfoot released a new single; "BIGFOOT" and it is running up the charts. They have announced that the new album drops on 9/27/11 and they will celebrate with a LIVE online performance. Man these guys are clucking awesome!

Now word that the band cannot wait for drummer Chad Smith to finish his tour with the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. So they have been beating the bushes to find a show replacement.

They found Kenny Arnoff ready to beat the drums and Chad has even handed him the sticks in video on the Chickenfoot site.

Barry drove in that morning in a sweet 1958 Ranchero and talked the day over with auctioneer, Dan Dotson.

Barrett-Jackson produced yet another another fun auction in Orange County, California this past weekend. The event drew thousands due to the perfect Southern California weather, plenty of cars and a great location.

The most memorable sale of the weekend was a VW bus that exceeded $200, 000! The bonspeed boys - Michael Anthony and Brad Fanshaw did not buy or sell this time, but enjoyed the festival.

Other notables in the skybox were Tony Hawk, Don Prudhomme, Bruce Jenner and Barry Weiss from the TV show Storage Wars.

Recently, our friends from the Netherlands sent us this photo from their adventure to the USA. Seems along the trip they were pulled over by the long arm of the law. They were released with just a warning, but we think the sheriff wanted to know where to get one of those great bonspeed Wheel t-shirts?

The Next bonspeed Wheels Project - Grand National Buick

Hauling the bonspeed Grand National from Arizona.

Knowing that the El Camino project was nearing completion, a few months ago we dug this GN Buick out of storage. It was in Arizona stored away with all sorts of other cool projects-to-be and parts.

The Buick Grand National is an 80,000 mile original that has been owned since 9000 miles showed on the odometer. The black bad attitude of these cars is still legendary today and we think it is time that one is built to our bonspeed standard.

Surrounded by some rare 1940's porcelain cabinets and speed goodies.

Stored in Arizona since 1991 this Gran National Buick is ready to see action again. The tires were light on air, the car has a heavy dusting of dirt and the tranny seal let go long ago. The body is straight as an arrow and being an original Arizona car it is perfectly preserved and no rot.

Telling signs of its former life on the street really yell 1980's like the cellular rear glass antenna, pinstripes, weld wheels and the tinted windows.
It is really ready to be torn apart and rebuilt with today's technology.


A 77,000 mile 1967 Chevelle SS 396 sits awaiting its turn at restoration.

If you are like me, then studying what is in the background is part of seeing photos of cars. Sitting next to the GN is another project, a 1967 Chevelle SS 396. This car was disassembled with only 77,000 miles and the plan was pro-street. Sitting behind the car is every era part to build the car.

bonspeed's 1971 Pro-Touring El Camino Through the Cones

bonspeed's 1971 El Camino Big Block Power and 18" wheels.

bonspeed has finally finished the pro-touring El Camino project it has been constructing. This muscle car was on the cover of Car Craft in January of 1998 and they hailed it as the start of a new trend. Car Craft recognized the new lead of muscle cars that handled! Trick back then was four wheel discs, coil-over rear suspension and dropped front spindles.

The problem was, despite a frame-up rebuild many parts still were not yet available for these cars. It looked great had plenty of power, but despite tuning it still handled like a pig.

Stopping a big car like this is no problem with BAER 6p brakes!

So a year ago the car started a transformation and here are some of the newest modifications:
• BAER 6p brakes and 13" rotors f&r.
• Hotchkis front suspension with tubular a-arms.
• A Currie fabricated 9" rear hung with coil-overs.
• Shorty headers by Sanderson.
• Stainless steel exhaust by MagnaFlow.
• Quick Fuel Technology fuel system.
• Energy Suspension engine mounts.
• 18X8 & 18X10 bonspeed Wheels.

Larry Dixon Awarded Special 3X Top Fuel Champion Bonneville/bonspeed Swiss "12.4.8" Watch

On Sunday February 27th, 2011, Brad Fanshaw the President/CEO of Bonneville WorldWide, Inc. will celebrate the 2010 NHRA Championship of Larry Dixon. At the NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, California Larry will be awarded a specially constructed Bonneville/bonspeed Swiss "12.4.8" mechanical chronograph watch.

This watch is the only one in the world and the rotor reads "3X Top Fuel Champion". Dixon has worn Bonneville/bonspeed watches exclusively for over a decade. "We are excited that our friend Larry has won all three of his championships wearing Bonneville/bonspeed watches!" exclaimed Brad Fanshaw.

We were walking around at the Barrett-Jackson auction last weekend when Charlie Lillard stopped
us to say hello. Charlie a great car guy is someone we run into at all the best car destinations. We talked cars, Charlie reminded Brad that he needs to make reservations for Chicago next November. He wants Brad to bring his Baldwin-Motion Phase III Vega to the Muscle Car & Corvette Nationals.

In the middle of his sentence, Charlie motioned and asked if we had seen his new car. We looked and asked, where is it? "Over there in the corner.", replied Charlie. Then we saw it, the world's smallest production car and when Charlie asked Brad if he wanted to sit inside, no need to ask twice.

Just sitting in this cool little car allowed fantasies of driving into the offices just like Jeremy on Top Gear!

Look for the "Cruz Bum" 1934 Roadster at the GNRS

The Grand National Roadster Show is this weekend (January 28-30, 2011) in Pomona, CA. This is the big show that everyone wants to attend. Filled with some of the finest hot rods and show cars on earth the who's who of hot rods always attend.

This year look for the Speeed Yellow 1934 above. The "Cruz Bum" belongs to bonspeed boy, Mark Cilani and it has an interesting past. Find the car and read the story on the show board.

If you are at the show on Friday January 28th be sure to visit the NHRA Museum next door. The museum will host a great forum featuring bonspeed boy- Brad Fanshaw, Chip Foose, Roy Brizio, Jimmy Shine and more. They will discuss the link between hot rods and rock-n-roll, including the guitars and the cars they have built. Brad's forum starts at 1:30p.m.

The Pontiac Sunfire concept car that was designed and built in 2003 again visited the auction block. The car designed by Brad Fanshaw and bonspeed is called the "Speed Cult" Sunfire. Pontiac asked bonspeed to design a car that would show what could be done, an out-of-the-box version of the Sunfire. The car debuted at the LA Auto Salon in the GM booth and was a huge success. In 2005 the car was sold at Barrett-Jackson with other concepts designed and built by bonspeed.

It was about 1994 when I went on a trip to Cabo with Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar. After some of the famous Cabo Wabo Margarita's, I opened my mouth about how Boyd and I should build a billet bass for Michael. Well he thought it was great idea and I needed to go home and sell Boyd on the idea.

If you are interested in the entire story, then you may want to be at the NHRA Museum on Friday January 28, 2011. The entire story will be told of how I talked Boyd into the idea, the design and the making of the billet bass. Also about Anthony's hot rod guitar and the custom guitars bonspeed designed for Ford and Barrett-Jackson.

When Brad and Mike; the bonspeed boys and owners of bonspeed Wheels go to the SEMA show in Las Vegas they get excited. This two-page spread appeared in the SEMA show coverage issue of SEMA's magazine as part of an article of images that summed up the show.

The photo was taken during the filming of Car Crazy hosted by Barry Meguiar (right). Michael was telling a story about cars or music (I am safe there) and Brad was along for the ride at that point. SEMA is the world's largest and most exciting car show and trade event. The bonspeed boys always have cars on display and make the media rounds; 2010 was no exception. The boys appeared on Car Crazy, Hot Rod TV, Hot Rod Radio and Car and Driver Radio among others.

Every Year the editors at Truckin' Magazine take every single super trick, clean, outrageous, tight ride that has appeared on its pages. These guys spend hours, days and even weeks drinking beer, arguing and yes even throwing fists.

The group of photographers, writers and artists are all going to blows for their choice of what trucks will be called the very best of the year. When the black eyes are given, the names have been called and most importantly the beer is all gone they make a decision.

Next they must go home sleep it off and then get back to work and finish the issue.

Chassis by Aaron sculpted this badazz C-10; bonspeed "QUASAR"

Aaron massaged every panel of this 1967 C-10 in his quest for perfection. If you followed the month-by-month build then you saw the incredible metal work, chassis and attention to detail. The truck was built for L.A. Angels second baseman Howard "Howie" Kendrick and it is a home run. You can now find it cruising the streets of So. Cal with the 22X8.5 and 24X12 bonspeed "QUASAR" wheels.

Andy Gulick's 1996 Silverado with bonspeed "CLUTCH" wheels

This super slammed silver Chevrolet is very deserving of a prime spot. Andy Gulick of Phoenix, Arizona bolted on a set of 22X8.5 and 22X10 bonspeeed "CLUTCH" wheels. To get the truck this low Andy used Belltech drop spindles, Firestone air bags and an Ekstensive two-link to hold that rearend under the truck.

Mark Espino's 1957 Chevrolet Cameo with 22" & 24" bonspeed "ATOM" wheels

Obviously, Mark Espino from Houston, Texas does not settle for just ok. This guys goes for the very best when he builds a truck! First Mark started with a super rare and desirable Cameo pickup, then he wedged between the fender wells a 454 big block motor. To keep that power on the ground a set of bonspeed "ATOM" wheels; 22X8.5 front and huge 24X14 rear were selected.

Dixon Does It Again! Wins the NHRA U.S. Nationals in Indy

Larry Dixon arrived at the NHRA U.S. Nationals with a 30 point lead in the top fuel championship chase. The lead was his reward for being #1 for the first portion of the 2010 season.

The U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis is known as the "Big Go" and thought of as the Superbowl of drag racing. With a tough field and every driver and team wanting the edge, Indy is important. Dixon was qualified #1 and used that momentum towards the win.

Dixon and the Al-Anabi team have now reached a milestone of 10 finals in a single season and this his 102nd final places him atop the record books.

Way to go Larry! We know it is because he rides on bonspeed wheels and wears a bonspeed/Bonneville watch!

Michael Anthony Featured in the NHRA Museum's Axes & Axles Exhibit

The bonspeed boys Michael Anthony, Brad Fanshaw and Mark Cilani attended the premier opening of "Axes & Axles: The Art of Building Cars and Guitars" today; September 1, 2010. The exhibit which officially opens September 4, 2010 at the NHRA Museum in Pomona, California is a tribute to cars, guitars and the musicians who love them. The custom tribute also features the art of hot rods and the custom guitars that rockers build to wow the audience. Michael Anthony of Van Halen and Chickenfoot fame is a featured artist with one of the hot rods from his collection and two of his guitars being shown.The array of hot rods include Jeff Beck's 1932 Ford (shown above), Billy F. Gibbons "CadZZilla" built by the legendary Boyd Coddington, Eric Clapton's Ford Woody and of course Michael Anthony's famed "Fire Roadster" built by Hot Rods by Boyd.

Surrounding the hot rods and customs are showcase displays of the guitars that were played by the hard rockin' hot rodders and some very special custom axes. The bass shown above is one of Michael's favorites and shows the wear of years on the road and in the studio with Van Halen. The paint also matches his Fire Roadster!

In another case is Michael's billet bass that was designed and conceived by Brad Fanshaw; then President and business partner of hot rod legend Boyd Coddington. Michael and Brad were on a trip to Cobo San Lucas, Mexico when the idea was discussed and the plans were layed. Upon returning to the states, Brad talked his partner (Boyd) into having the shop spend hundreds of man hours creating the hot rod bass guitar. The ideas created by Brad and Michael were taken to shop employee Chip Foose who was given the concept and direction so he could illustrate the idea.

The bass was an instant hit, being discussed on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, written about in newspapers world wide and many magazines. The guitar has even been displayed in the Hard Rock Cafe. This bass epitomizes the cross of cultures, as it features every element of a hot rod.

The Axes & Axles exhibit is at the NHRA Museum in Pomona, California, for information visit www.museum.nhra.com. Exhibit opens during the L.A. County Fair. Dixon Does it Again - Win #8 in Sonoma!

Larry Dixon captured Top Fuel win #8 last weekend in Sonoma, California. Already in the number one position, this win gives him a commanding lead. Sonoma, California is perfect in July and the win made the wine country even sweeter.

It was made even better because we were on-hand to watch Larry grab the Wally and the additional points towards the 2010 NHRA Championship.

As I mentioned above, we were in Sonoma for the Fram Autolite NHRA Nationals and bonspeed Girl; Charlotte was there too. During the awards ceremony Larry pulled Charlotte in the winners circle to hold his Wally Trophy and get a photo. Since it was her birthday, he also presented her with the coveted and rare Top Fuel winners hat.PICTURED BELOW:

Larry Dixon Stays #1 With Win in Norwalk, Ohio

If you have been following the bonspeed blog, you already know that Larry Dixon the two-time NHRA Top-Fuel Champion is one of the bonspeed boys. Before Larry became the driver of the Al-Anabi car he proudly wore the bonspeed logo on his helmet. Today, Larry continues winning and promoting bonspeed by wearing our watches and using bonspeed wheels.

Larry is far more than just a driver who wears our watches and uses our wheels. Larry is a good friend and we are so excited to see how well this season is going for him and the Al-Anabi team.

The win in Norwalk, Ohio at the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals places him in the points lead with 176 pts above #2! Dixon is in the groove and we wish him the best in the coming races.

Darrell Gwynn Foundation Charity Poker Event At John Force's

Wednesday Evening June 23, 2010 the bonspeed boys; Brad Fanshaw and Michael Anthony attended the Year One and Hot Rodders Children’s Charity Poker Tournament held at the John Force Racing Facility in Yorba Linda, California. The event started with John Force at the podium showing support of Darrell and the Foundation.

The evening had silent auctions, live auctions and a Poker Tournament with players paying $1000 each to play. All of the proceeds were to benefit the foundations that helps children get wheelchairs. The event was limited to 75 players who raised big money.

Children were the focus and with casino style games for fun the kids even got into the action.

The Force facility is amazing and the memorabilia on display gave us all plenty to enjoy in addition to great food.

Darrell Gwynn introduced everyone to Blake Hunt, Hunt broke a vertebra in his neck, which left him paralyzed. He is one of the lucky individuals who have benefited from Darrell's hard work and the generosity of people who attend these events.

Darrell Gwynn Foundation Charity Poker Event

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010 Year One and Hot Rodders Children's Charity are presenting a "Charity Poker Tournament to benefit The Darrell Gwynn Foundation. The event will be held at John Force's racing facility in Yorba Linda, CA.

The $1000 per player event will benefit Darrell's charity that donates wheel chairs to children who have suffered spinal cord injury. This event officially kicks off the weeks events for the first ever Costa Mesa, CA Barrett-Jackson auction events.

The charity event will also include a silent auction with many items available with all of the proceeds benefiting the foundation. Steve Strope at Pure Vision really took his latest build to the limit. The 515 Charger is all muscle car, but it has the inspiration of a classic European. The car even has been converted to right-hand drive.

When Steve needed a set of wheels as special as the car he contacted bonspeed and we made him a one-off style to compliment this beauty. The wheels began as 7" thick discs of billet aluminum and they were machined to a special design that Steve and bonspeed owner, Brad Fanshaw created. Next a unique set of knock-off style caps were deigned and machined.

The budget was big, but the wheels had to fit the larger-than-life styling of this car!

This was the greatest open house and car show So. Cal may have ever seen and certainly the best we ever hosted! It was 1997 and bonspeed was still called Bonneville Sports (our original name- Where the name bon originated).

We invited everyone to come by for an open house, show and party at our design studios. Just a few of the names that were on hand Tony Nancy, Don Prudhomme, Jesse James, Lil John Buttera, Ron Capps, Harry Hibler and many others. We had the Mooneyes streamliner, a Tony Nancy vintage dragster, a half dozen choppers that Jesse hauled over from his shop and lots of other famous cars too.

Super Chevy Magazine Shootout- Features Hotchkis Wagon

Super Chevy Magazine invites the suspension gurus and chassis specialists out for a day of hard charging action. They call this the Super Chevy Shootout and manufacturers all bring out the best they have.

Now you would expect that these would be Camaros, Mustangs, Cudas and anything that comes to mind when we speak autocross, road courses and such.

This year Hotchkis suspension showed up with this rare 2-door Malibu wagon. While preparing the car they called Nitto for tires and bonspeed for the all important wheels.

With just a week to prepare our factory went into high gear and machined a set of pro-touring, road course worthy 18" Crokus style wheels with big back pads to clear the massive brakes.

The wagon did tremendously well, but you will need to catch a spring 2010 issue of Super Chevy magazine for the results and tech specs on the car.

Every year the bonspeed boys, Brad Fanshaw and Michael Anthony (owners of bonspeed) eagerly await the Scottsdale Barrett-Jackson auction. This year was no different except getting there was more difficult due to severe weather.

Michael was scheduled to fly in on Thursday, but was forced to drive when all flights were cancelled from Southern California. Brad and his friend Mark Cilani attended the anniversary party for Lear Jet on Thursday night and still had to drive over on Friday. The good news is they made it and missed the drama of the big storm on Thursday night in Scottsdale.

The event in Scottsdale was a s exciting as ever and the boys saw many friends and plenty of great deals on cars. Remember, Michael is building a new pro-touring Chevelle and Brad is getting ready to start on a 1969 Camaro. Our friend Bob Johnson did buy to the sum of thirteen cars?

bonspeed Wheels is always sure to stay on the cutting edge of the aftermarket. SEMA 2009 is no different as shown on the "RedRum" Camaro at right.

RedRum was built in Texas by Mitch Henderson and the guys at STATUS this 2010 Camaro SS is hammered to the ground with Air Ride and even has a supercharged engine. As you already noticed by now the car has an outrageous 22/24" wheel and tire combination. On the front are 22x8.5 bonspeed style "VinSpeed" wheels and the rear has massive 24x10's. These wheels are Color Forged™ with cast gray centers.

Eddie Van Halen's- Van Hauler Original Photo!

I heard recently that the truck that Boyd Coddington and I designed and built for Eddie Van Halen was being resurrected. Duane Mayer at American Hot Rods called to ask if I knew anything about the truck that was built at Hot Rods by Boyd for Eddie? I replied that I did and where was it? He informed me that someone had called about restoring it and they were bringing it to his shop.

This was one bad ass sport truck with Corvette suspension, drive train and the full Boyd sport truck treatment. We even made one-off wheels that replicated Ed's stripe pattern. The side stripe not only had his stripes but, it ends with the shape of a guitar head. I do remember driving the truck through Los Angeles and many a Van Halen fan strained to see through the tinted windows. They knew what that stripe represented and they thought maybe the guitar god was behind the wheel.

Somewhere I have a photo of Eddie and I with the similar, but less modified giveaway truck in the Petersen Publishing photo studio. If I find it we will post that at a later date.

It is great to see the truck is being granted another life, but in my opinion a restoration instead of modification would have been better and more valuable!

Scott's Hot Rods Show Off Mustang at GoodGuys Columbus With bonspeed Wheels!

Goodguys in Columbus, Ohio is always the location for the debut of many a top car! bonspeed's President; Brad Fanshaw walked in the gates on Friday and in the HOT staging lanes were two muscle cars wearing bonspeed's. These two cars were waiting their turn for the timed autocross, a must for competitors in the "Street Machine of The Year" competition.

The otrageously nice black Mustang was brought from California by Justin Padfield/Scott's Hot Rods. This car that features bonspeed "T-Rex" wheels and a "T-Rex" steering wheel was built for Mike Dingman.

You can see a feature on that Lime Green Mopar in the background in this months "Muscle Car Power". The cover car features bonspeed "Atom-Bomb" wheels.

The Summer always means that you will find bonspeed Wheels traveling the USA and attending the best car shows! One show we recently attended was the GoodGuys Heartland Nationals in Des Moines, Iowa on July 4th weekend.

bonspeed's President attended to support one of our dealers; MagMotoringWheels.com of Omaha, Nebraska. Mark and Damon Grimes the leaders at MAG had a great booth and brought two cars to represent the bonspeed wheel line.

At the booth was one of the baddest 1972 Camaro pro-street cars you will ever find! The car was built by MAG Motoring and has 18x8 bonspeed Huntington wheels in the front and 20x12 bonspeed Huntington wheels in the back. This killer ride has a full Air-Ride suspension and a big block for power.

Dixon Wins Again - Top Fuel Win In Norwalk!

You can bet that Larry Dixon had just as big a smile in Norwalk, OH last weekend, June 28th, 2009. He not only grabbed the #1 Top Fuel qualifying position but he backed it up with another win.

This win has placed Dixon firmly in the #2 spot overall and looking good for the upcoming race to the championship. It looks like he is settling into the new sponsor and dragster.

bonspeed co-owner, Michael Anthony, and his highly-anticipated band, Chickenfoot, head out TODAY on the first part of their world tour! The first leg kicks off for almost 30 days in Europe at the Nova Rock Festival in Austria and then, after cruising through the other continent, Michael and Chickenfoot will return to North America for the North American leg.

After a sold-out “Road Test” tour of just 9 cities and top-5-charting debut of the album, the band is sure to sell out and wow crowds. Support the bonspeed boy by rocking out at one of the shows, by joining the Chickenfoot Fanclub or by purchasing the new CD.

Michael told us that he loves touring but is going to miss his freshly rebuilt ’57 Nomad. The car just came back from Troy Trepanier’s Shop with new mods including a set of 18/20 bonspeed Delta Wheels.

Michael Anthony, part owner of bonspeed Wheels and one of the bad to the bone bonspeed Boys, is gearing up for the release of the first album from his new band, Chickenfoot! Today, (June 5, 2009) is the day the album drops and has been dubbed by the band as Footday, jabbing at the band’s obvious strange name.

The even more electrifying news is that tonight, Chickenfoot will also be rocking on the new Conan O’Brien led Tonight Show. FootRageous! With it being the first week of the new Conan show, of course the band will be there to leave their footprint with a live performance of “Oh Yeah”.

bonspeed Wheels is stoked to have their co-owner grace the stage at the Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien and reminds bonspeed Wheels enthusiasts to support Michael and Chickenfoot.

Just like you we are always excited to see a cool car on the cover of a magazine. When we grabbed the May issue of Super Chevy we found Dave Wynne’s brilliant orange ‘69 Camaro! Yep, that Camaro is shod in bonspeed Malibu wheels. Dave added 18×8’s up front and 20×12’s in the rear. One fine Camaro!

Way back in 1996 the bonspeed El Camino was emblazoned across the cover of Car Craft. The car was the very start of the pro-touring trend in styling. The car had exotic (by 1995 standards) 18" wheels and oh my gosh four wheel disc brakes!

It did feature a quick steering box, a chassis built at the original Hot Rods by Boyd and a motor and trans that had been smoothed and painted body color. This El Camino with the Big Block and coil-over suspension was exotic for the day.

Fast-forward to 2009 and the car looks nice but it lacks some serious hardware underneath. bonspeed Wheels has teamed with Travis Noack, the editors of MuscleCar Power to remake the car and bring it back to cover car status. The El Camino will get among other parts BAER 6-piston brakes with 14" rotors front and back, Hotchkis tubular A-arms, sway bar and a complete suspension tune-up, shorty headers and new exhaust and of course a
new set of bonspeed Wheels. The wheels will be a 19" front and 20" rear set of our newest style, the "VinSpeed".

Mopars at the Strip Build Car features bonspeed Wheels

The Mopars at the Strip event will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 20-22, 2009. This annual event is a mecca of cars for the Mopar fanatic. Every year the cars converge on Vegas and tear up the strip and shine in the desert sun. This is also an event that we wait to see what new parts and cool Mopar cars will emerge for the new year. We hear that the guys from Mr. Norm’s are bringing something pretty cool and it will feature bonspeed wheels.

The Mopars at the Strip event is also known for building some cool Chrysler, Dodge or Plymouth during the show. Again in 2009, Steve Strope from Pure Vision will lead the build-up. This year the car is a 1967 Cornet and bonspeed Wheels along with Hotchkis, Pirelli and Wilwood will contribute to making the Cornet happen!

If you watch much TV you may have seen the commercial for AT&T's HTC FUZE mobile phone that features the Steve Strope built 515 GTB Charger. The car was built at Strope's shop in Simi Valley, California and is one of the coolest Chargers you will find. Plus the car is right hand drive!
